Meet marcus.

My Vision

As a lifelong renter and proud member of the Marcy-Holmes community for over two decades,

I am honored to be running for City Council. I understand the importance of leadership and community engagement, and I am dedicated to making a positive impact on our city.

My involvement for decades with the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association, my years with the Minneapolis Neighborhood and Community Engagement Commission, and the Minneapolis Clean Energy Partnership’s Energy Vision Advisory Committee have allowed me to gain valuable experience as a leader on local issues.

I have served as the Chair of the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association Land Use and Development Committee, Minnesota’s Senate District 60 DFL, all while owning and operating my own small business. Through these positions, I have been able to guide, develop and implement policies that benefit our community and its stakeholders, such as the adjustment of hotel regulations that led to the creation of the Inn at Alma, the upcoming Minneapolis Climate and Equity Plan, and efforts like the Just Transition Fund.

Beyond policy, I am a passionate black nerd, committed to community engagement and the benefits creative vision brings to our most important conversations. As an avid Dungeons and Dragons player and anime lover, I understand the importance of creativity and energy in thinking big, giving rise to bold solutions, and bringing people together to make them into reality. These traditions also lend wisdom to the importance of the school of thought known as infinite games, which unlike zero-sum games are based on building and maintaining relationships and win-win scenarios. The goal of an infinite game, like life, politics, and progress, is to ensure the conditions by which all involved are ready, willing, and able to continue into the future. The “win” and the “prize” in an infinite game that we all want to and get to keep playing.

Whether at community meetings or out and about in our Ward 3 neighborhood, you may have seen me sporting my memorable black duster and driving cap. I love exploring the natural beauty of Father Hennepin Bluffs Park and Mill City Historic Sites, as well as the local businesses and restaurants in Dinkytown, Downtown, and throughout our beloved community.

With years of experience in the energy and environment sector, I am excited to bring my expertise as your next city council member. I am proud of my work with Community Power to bring about the City’s first-in-the-nation City-Utility Clean Energy Partnership. This experience has given me a deep understanding of our communities’ challenges and prepared me to create positive change for our neighbors.

I am a proud public servant, driven by a deep commitment to our community. As someone who is immersed in the issues facing our neighborhoods, and our geographic and ethnic communities, I believe that I can serve as a hub, bringing together different perspectives to create a brighter future for all of us. I am confident that, as a community, we can work together to ensure that everyone has access to comfortable and affordable housing, secure neighborhoods, economic prosperity, and a more sustainable and equitable future for all residents of our city.

Thank you for considering me as your next city council member. Let’s work together to build a better tomorrow!
